Your Curve Care Plan

Twelve treatments, three phases, and a measurement you can actually see - all built around your spine.

WHAT WE'RE WORKING TOWARD

Less Pain. Scoliosis pain usually comes not from the curve itself, but from muscles working unevenly. This is something we can treat.

Easier Breathing. When the ribcage is rotated, the lower ribs stop moving freely. We measure this and work on it directly.

Daily Life That Feels Better. Sitting through a class, carrying a bag, sleeping through the night, standing without bracing yourself. Your overall quality of life and day-to-day function will be addressed.

Know You Carry Yourself. Shoulder and waist evenness matter to people living in these bodies. That is a legitimate goal, not vanity. We will support your posture with exercises and specific acupuncture treatments.

Carefully Watching the Curve. We will measure the same way every time, so change shows up early rather than at the next specialist visit.

An Honest Word About the Curve Itself

The treatments with the strongest evidence for changing a scoliosis curve are bracing, when recommended by a specialist, and scoliosis-specific exercise combined with Chinese medical approaches. Chinese medicine has been shown to have the greatest effect on curves with a Cobb angle under 35 degrees. If your curve is greater than 35 degrees and/or needs more than the above stated goals, I will let you know and help you find the right person who can provide you the right care.

Who This Plan Is For

Adolescents and adults living with a diagnosed curve, whether your curves are being watched, you are wearing a brace, doing exercise-based therapy, or are years past all of it and simply tired of hurting.

Five Goals, In Plain Terms

Working With Your Other Providers

If you already see a physical therapist or orthopedist, I would like to be in touch with them. If you do not see one, and your measurements suggest you should, I will let you know and refer you to someone who can help.

HOW THE TWELVE VISITS RUN

Three Phases

VISITS 9-12

Making It Hold

Gains have to survive outside the clinic room. During this time, we narrow in on whatever is still limiting you, lock in your home routine, and set the plan for what comes after visit 12.

VISITS 1-4

Settling Things Down

We start with pain management, working on calming a nervous system that has been guarding. Structural work does not take hold in a body that is braced against it. This is also where we take your baseline measurement.

VISITS 5-8

Working The Curves

Now we go after the pattern itself: the tight side, the weak side, rib movement and the diaphragm. Visit 8 is a checkpoint where we remeasure and decide together what the last four visits should focus on.

Your Part

You will leave with a small number of exercises and a breathing pattern to practice at home. This is not optional extra credit - the research is consistent that people who do the active work alongside treatment do better than people who only recieve treatment. A few minutes daily is far more effective than one long session each week.

After the Twelve Visits

We look at the full before-and-after together and decide what makes sense: a maintenance rhythm, another focused series, or nothing at all for a while. Twelve visits is a complete plan, not a subscription.

TRACKING YOUR PROGRESS

Every visit we record your pain level. Four times across the series - visits 1, 4, 8, and 12 - we take a fuller set of measurements so we can see real change rather than guess at it.

Small Changes Are Not Always Real Changes

Every measurement has a margin of error. If a reading moves by less than about three degrees, that is inside the margin - so I will tell you it held steady, not that it improved. You will only hear the word improvement when the change is bigger than the error.

A small level held against your back while you bend forward. It measures how far the ribs and back rotate. No radiation, no cost, takes five minutes.

A tape measure at the ribs, comparing a full breath in to a full breath out.

A short questionnaire used to measure quality of life in those with scoliosis.

Standing and forward-bend photos at your first and last visit, with your written consent, so you can see the change rather than take my word for it.

How We Know It's Working

Before Your First Visit

If you have had scoliosis X-rays, ask the clinic that took them to send the report - I cannot order imaging, but the curve measurement on the report is a useful starting point. Wear or bring something that lets me see your back: a fitted tank or a sports bra. For patients under eighteen, a parent stays in the room at all times.
