Meet Sasha Dewsnup

I came to holistic medicine through my wise mother who looked at the health problems of her children and believed there had to be more beyond the insufficient answers of western medicine. Western medicine treated symptoms very well, but failed to explain how all the different health challenges in an individual were connected. My major health complication was severe congenital kypho-scoliosis, which was treated through seven spine-related surgeries. After surgery, I received acupuncture which helped me recover faster than expected. From then on, learning about Chinese medicine and practicing acupressure became my hobby.
While in the hospital with my surgeries, I became passionate about Recreational Therapy (using recreation and leisure to promote healing in all areas of life) and Child Life Specialists (help support children and their families psychoemotionally in a hospital setting). I studied both of those fields in my undergrad, became a Certified Recreational Therapy Specialist (CTRS) and Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS). When I graduated, I felt that I shouldn’t immediately pursue a career in those fields.
Soon after, I learned about the National University of Natural Medicine and felt drawn to pursue my Doctorate of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine (DAaCHM) and become an acupuncturist (LAc). Through my education, I have fallen in love with ancient Chinese medical texts, medical guides that have not been changed in thousands of years because they still hold true. I have learned that Chinese medicine does not only treat pain, but treats all kinds of physical and mental health concerns.
During my schooling, I met my incredible husband, gained a sweet bonus son, and became pregnant with my daughter. I was able to use Chinese medicine to support my body and mind before, during, and after pregnancy. I even used it while giving birth naturally!
When I'm not spending time with my incredible family or working, I enjoy reading, baking, crocheting, watching movies, and immersing myself in nature through forest bathing. Creative at heart, I find joy in playing my harp and singing bowls, and am always curious to learn something new.
As a Doctor of Chinese medicine and soon-to-be acupuncturist, I approach each patient I treat with warm compassion, transparency, and treatments designed just for them. I believe that each individual is their own hero and healer on their journey. I, as a practitioner, fulfill a supportive role to help as the patients learn more about what's going on with their health, puzzle about how it all connects in with everything else in their body and life experience, and strategize and experiment on what ultimately will provide their healing and wholeness.
I love to incorporate the skills I gained as a Child Life Specialist by explaining in relatable terms how acupuncture and the other modalities I use work and why they provide the benefits they do. I am excited when I am able to use Chinese medicine to support western medical procedures - with preparation and recovery, but also in providing acupressure and other holistic tips and tricks patients can apply during their medical experiences.
I incorporate the principles of Recreational Therapy as I focus both on the patient experience during the treatment and then in providing healing experiences outside of the treatment room. Healing experiences I plan or hope to provide include qigong classes, forest bathing workshops, sound bath meditation sessions, and mini reset retreats.
Life's struggles are meant to be opportunities for growth and learning. Mine have been and yours are or will be.
I believe we are divinely placed in locations where the resources we need to support our healing are all around us. We just need to find them. If my message and philosophy resonate with you, I'd love to be a supportive resource for you as you seek transformative healing during your unique life journey.
